A Milestone for Herschelschule

Significant progress is being made on the expansion and renovation of the high school — renovation work can now begin

Herschelschule is an all-day secondary school in Hanover’s Vahrenheide district. Its transition from an eight- to a nine-year programme requires additional space and extensive modifications to the existing buildings. Trapez is therefore planning a new building, four extensions and the renovation of the heritage-listed 1960s complex.

The new building, which provides general classrooms and a music cluster, is due to open after the autumn break. Its prominent position gives Herschelschule a new face while creating a clearly defined entrance and new courtyard.

Another milestone has now been reached with the completion of a modular timber building providing temporary accommodation on the school grounds. This will allow the existing buildings to be renovated in phases, upgraded to meet current fire-safety standards and made more accessible and inclusive. Carefully integrated extensions will provide additional space while preserving the character of the complex, with its eight building sections, covered walkways and glazed connections.
