What does a good place for learning look like?

Exhibition “School as a Place of Life – Architecture Meets Education” at the AIT Architecture Salon

The exhibition “School as a Place of Life” at the AIT Architecture Salon in Hamburg brings together outstanding school building projects from Scandinavia, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. The focus is on innovative spatial concepts that combine education and architecture.

Trapez is represented with the Römerstadtschule in Frankfurt and the new building for the Bünningstedt elementary school. Both projects show how educational models can be translated into spatial structures: cluster-like learning environments and learning halls instead of corridors, communal centers instead of isolated classrooms, diverse zones for interaction and retreat.

The exhibition highlights open learning landscapes, cluster models, and schools without traditional classrooms – while also questioning the added value of participatory planning processes. Many of the projects on display, including ours, are based on the early involvement of users.

As co-curator, Dirk Landwehr contributes Trapez's many years of expertise in educational construction and phase zero processes to the content of the exhibition. Accompanying the show, selected experts will discuss sustainable school construction, participation, and the translation of educational concepts into built spaces at a symposium.

The vernissage will take place on Thursday, March 19. The exhibition will then run until May 29 2026
