Safety Under One Roof – The New Emergency Response Center in Greifswald
With the new Emergency Response Center (GAZ) in Greifswald, a forward-looking hub for disaster management is taking shape in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald. More than 100 dedicated professionals from the emergency medical services, fire department, telemedicine center, and command staff will work here hand in hand. The center also includes dedicated rooms for the Bundeswehr’s district liaison command.
Located directly beside the district administration offices, the building makes a bold statement with its bright red façade. The rough-textured masonry references the Hanseatic brick tradition, while shimmering metal surfaces and angled façade openings pick up on the maritime context, giving the structure a contemporary and dynamic character. A slightly cantilevered upper edge accentuates the top floor — home to the heart of the GAZ: the state-of-the-art control center with integrated telemedicine hub. Here, dispatchers coordinate emergency calls and responses around the clock. Abundant daylight, acoustically effective materials, and concealed technical systems create an environment optimized for concentration and seamless communication.
