Following renovation, reorganization, and expansion, Oberschule Marklohe was officially inaugurated

After extensive renovation, reorganization, and expansion, the time had finally come: Oberschule Marklohe was officially inaugurated. With the completion of construction, a future-ready learning environment has been created—one that combines modern educational requirements with the school’s unique strengths.

The planning process began with an intensive “Phase Zero,” during which Trapez and eggermende architects worked closely with students, teachers, educators, and administrative staff to develop guiding principles for the school’s future development. The resulting concepts now shape the spatial organization and provide optimal conditions for contemporary learning and hands-on, practice-oriented work.

The existing school building was comprehensively modernized, restructured, and expanded with additional space. In particular, the workshop and makerspace areas were enhanced to further strengthen the school’s practical, craft-oriented focus. Spacious learning environments, multifunctional common areas, and fully accessible circulation encourage interaction, collaboration, and individualized learning approaches.

The project also sets important benchmarks in terms of sustainability: preserving key parts of the existing structure, using prefabricated timber construction elements, incorporating green roofs, and implementing energy-efficient upgrades all contribute to a resource-conscious and forward-looking development of the school campus.

With its distinctive metal façade and a collaboratively developed color and material concept, Oberschule Marklohe now presents itself as a modern educational environment with a high quality of stay and a strong identity.
