How Architecture Supports Pedagogy
Guest article on Bünningstedt Elementary School in bildung+ spezial
A guest article by Trapez on the new construction of Bünningstedt Elementary School in Ammersbek has been published in the current issue of bildung+ spezial (1/2026).
Titled “How Architecture Supports Pedagogy,” the article shows how an intensive phase zero process with extensive stakeholder participation led to the creation of a learning environment that fosters openness, interaction, and diverse learning formats. Bünningstedt Elementary School is organized into learning clusters with spacious shared areas and actively uses the entire space for learning. It deliberately does away with traditional corridors. In this way, the spatial structure supports the school’s concept of social learning and strengthens the sense of community.
